Uluwatu Surf Guide

Uluwatu is a collection of surf breaks on the southwest tip of Bali’s Bukit Peninsula, including The Peak, Racetrack, Temples, Outside Corner, and The Bombie. With so many options, it’s one of the most consistent surf spots in Bali. Conditions change with the tide and swell: small to medium swells work on all tides, while bigger swells are best on low tides due to strong currents and cave access.

At high tide, The Peak offers fun barrels. At low tide, The Racetrack becomes a fast, hollow reef break with a critical end section — best for experienced surfers. On huge swells, the inner breaks wash out and Uluwatu’s outer reefs come alive, handling waves up to 15 feet with ease.

How do you know if the Uluwatu Surf Forecast looks good or bad?

These are the key factors for getting the best possible waves in Uluwatu:
🌊 Swell

Ideal swell direction: Southwest (SW) or South (S)

Ideal swell size: 4 to 8 feet (1.2 to 2.5 meters) — though advanced surfers enjoy even bigger waves.

Uluwatu handles large swells well due to its reef bottom and cliff-facing orientation.

💨 Wind

Ideal wind: Offshore from the East (E) or Northeast (NE)

Offshore winds keep the wave face clean and well-shaped.

🕐 Tide

Works on all tides, but:

Mid to low tide: better for barrels at sections like Racetrack.High tide: ideal for The Peak, with smoother, more playful waves.☀️
